The Birth Bundle Project was co-founded and is currently managed by medical students, Daisy Lu and Sachintha Senarath, and Gynaecological Surgery Fellow, Dr Pavitra Nanayakkara. They are passionate about making a positive impact on this world through little actions that really count.
Dr Pavitra Nanayakkara
Pav is a specialist Gynaecologist and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon at Jean Hailes Melbourne CBD.
Pav grew up in rural Queensland and acquired her her medical degree at Monash University. She then went onto complete an honours year as a scholar of the RANZCOG Research Foundation, undertook internship and residency at The Alfred Hospital and trained in Intensive Care prior to her Obstetrics and Gynaecology training at The Royal Women’s Hospital. She has a passion for teaching and medical education. In 2018, she was the recipient of the Women’s Health “Inspire Me” Mentor of the Year award from Monash University.
Pav is very passionate about advancing women's health. As the daughter of immigrant parents, she is highly driven to make a positive impact on global disparities in healthcare and women's health through the Birth Bundle Project.
In her spare time, Pav loves cooking, travelling, hiking and going on adventures with her young family.
Dr Daisy Lu
Daisy is a junior doctor at the Royal Melbourne Hospital undertaking rotations in multiple areas in both women's health Women's Health and Specialty Medicine.
She has completed a Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) in obstetric and perinatal medicine.
As the child of Chinese immigrants and the first doctor in her family, she feels extremely lucky to be able to study medicine and actively tries to give back where she can. She has volunteered for a medical outreach trip in rural Philippines and helped organise local volunteer events.
Combining her passion for innovation and global health, she strongly believes in the Birth Bundle Project and its potential to help mothers during the birth of their children.
Dr Sachintha Senarath
Sachi is a junior doctor at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne currently in his final year of Basic Physician's Training.
Having been born and raised in Sri Lanka for most of his childhood, Sachi has experienced the health inequities that exist within developing nations and is motivated to bridge this gap. He has also been part of volunteer missions to help disadvantaged communities in rural India and Nepal.
Sachi has an interest in global health. He has undertaken public health research exploring new ways of monitoring quality and safety in the Victorian maternity sector, and was also the 2020 Chair of the Women's Health Interest Society of Monash University.
In his spare time, Sachi enjoys competing in athletics as a 100m sprinter, nature photography, and travelling the world with his family.
